WU Starbucks closed after 5 student workers test positive for COVID-19

Starbucks entrance closed off

Winthrop University’s Starbucks location was shut down Monday night for cleaning and sanitization after five student employees tested positive for COVID-19.

The number of positive tested employees has risen to six as of Tuesday morning, said General Manager for Sodexo Helen Hoban.

“Starbucks closed last night at approximately 7:30,” Hoban said. “This was a major training weekend where several of these (COVID-19 positive) employees encountered many of our other student employees at Starbucks. So for everyone’s safety, we’ve decided to close for three days.”

The coffeehouse restaurant is expected to be closed until Friday for standard cleaning and sanitization. Students working in Starbucks will be masked for the next 5 to 10 business days to “make sure they are symptom free.”
