Suspicious package located at Tillman Hall

On Nov. 8, Winthrop University Police Department received a call referencing a suspicious package being left in the basement of Tillman Hall.
According to the Reporting Office (R/O), the package contained items of clothing in the women’s restroom. Inside the package were a pair of black pants, grey underwear and a pair of tie-dye Crocs.
After looking at security footage, the R/O observed an individual described as a Black female wearing the exact items entering the restroom with another Black female.
At this time, the R/O is unable to identify the individuals in the video and all items have been placed into found property.

A traffic stop leads to arrest of a wanted person

On Nov. 7, a traffic stop led to the arrest of a driver due to violation of parole.
According to the Reporting Officer (R/O), he observed the driver traveling near Cherry Road with a defective brake light. The R/O ran the vehicle’s tags though NCIC and the tags came back expired. The R/O immediately initiated blue lights to conduct a traffic stop.
When approaching the vehicle, the R/O asked the driver, identified as Juan Carlos Ramirez Santos, 28, for his driver’s license, registration, and proof of insurance. Ramirez responded to the R/O that he didn’t have his driver license and gave him his Guatemala Consular ID card.
According to the R/O, when he walked back to his patrol car to run the driver’s name and DOB on NCIC, there was a detection that Ramirez was a wanted person out of Riley County Police Department for failure to appear. Once the R/O confirmed with dispatch about the detection, dispatch also revealed that Ramirez driver’s license was suspended.
According to the R/O, a detection was confirmed as a violation of parole with Eagle County Sheriff’s Office and the agency would extradite.
The R/O immediately arrested the driver and towed the vehicle.

Student receives threat via text messages

Winthrop University Police Department responded to an incident reported on Nov. 6 involving a violation of unlawful communication.
According to the Reporting Officer R/O, the victim, identified as a Winthrop Affiliate, stated that she had advised the suspect to stop contacting her due to a falling out.
According to the victim, the suspect sent several text messages threatening to do harm to her.
The R/O advised the victim to refrain contact with the suspect. The victim also wishes a report for documentation purposes only at this time.
