Swindling Case Under Investigation

Winthrop University Police Department is currently investigating a case involving an act of swindling reported on Oct. 31.
According to the Reporting Officer (R/O), the victim, identified as a Winthrop Affiliate, stated that he’s been messaging the individual online since May 2022. The victim provided details that he did send the individual indecent photos of himself and soon after, he began to receive threats and blackmail.
According to the victim, the individual sent messages demanding money in exchange for deleting the victim’s indecent photos. The victims stated that he did comply by sending money, but however, the individual requested more money followed by a threat that the indecent photos would be leaked online.
At this time, the identity of the individual is still unknown, but for awareness and precautionary purposes, the alias of the individual goes by various names such as; Guerson Bellevue, Kyelin and Nelz.
The R/O advised the victim not to send any more funds to the individual and to refrain from any source of contact. The case is still remaining open for further investigation. Loud Noise Reported in Margaret Nance Hall Leads to A Severe Altercation

On Nov 02, a Reporting Officer (R/O) was dispatched to Margaret Nance Hall in reference to an assault incident.

According to the R/O, the victim, identified as a Winthrop Affiliate, stated that there was a constant sound of loud noises coming from the hallway area on the 2nd floor. He explained that him and a friend went out to check where the noise was coming from and requested that the group quiet the noise due to disturbance.

According to the victim, when informing the group about the loud noise, a female, identified as a Winthrop Affiliate, proceeded to approach the victim and wrapped her hands around his neck, shaking him approximately three times in a strangle manner.

After the brief confrontation, the female was pulled away from the victim and she immediately left the area. The R/O attempted to locate the female; however, she wasn’t found. The R/O instructed the victim to fill out a Witness Statement form and left a voicemail with the female involved in the incident to contact Winthrop University Police Department at her earliest convenience to be interviewed.

The victim suffered no major injuries and didn’t need medical attention. But due to the severity of this incident, and the violation of the code of conduct, the female individual will be referred to the Dean of Students. Possible charges that may be upheld due to this incident are assault and battery (3rd degree).

Petty Larceny Incident Located At Winthrop Coliseum North Parking Lot

Winthrop University Police Department responded to a petty larceny incident reported on Nov 01 at Winthrop Coliseum North parking lot.
According to the victim, she stated that while attempting to open the storage units, which belong to medical laboratory Genetworx, she noticed that the locks on the units were broken off. She also mentioned that she noticed a total of three generators missing from inside the storage.
According to the Genetworx Program Manager, the three generators are value at $600 per unit
The R/O attempted to locate security footage of the North parking lot; however, he was unable to locate any. At this time, there is no identified suspect/suspects related to this incident.
