In: Voting — No more sitting on the sidelines! If you’re eligible to vote for the first year, make sure that you are registered, do your research and sign up to get your absentee ballot if you won’t be in your city on voting day.
Out: Being apathetic as a trend — We are not going to be acting like we don’t care so we seem cooler to other people. We are making being passionate cool again.
In: Cutting out toxic people — Don’t bring people with you into this next decade that don’t treat you in a way that makes you feel loved and supported. You deserve people who will lift you up and make you feel empowered.
Out: Vaping — With new tobacco laws in effect, anyone under 21 is no longer allowed to purchase tobacco products. Getting addicted to nicotine will no longer be as easy and the amount of people that will think it’s a fun trend will go down.
In: Conscious consumerism — We won’t be buying things without research this year. Instead, we will be focusing on buying from brands that support our ethics and that are sustainable in their practices.
Out: Greenwashing — This year, we are not falling for packaging that makes us feel like we are buying things that are better for us and the planet than we think they are. We will be holding brands to higher standards and making them feel pressured to express their products accurately.
In: Staying informed — Keeping up with the news of the day and staying up to date on things that are happening at a local, national and international level, in order to be a well-rounded citizen is going to be one of the biggest trends of the year.
Out: Pressures to be a certain way — We will no longer be holding ourselves and others to ridiculously high standards dictated to us by media. Instead, we will be kinder to ourselves and others and give each other room to breathe.
