Graduate assistant athletic trainer, Jamie Beyer, finds her flock with the Eagles
Jamie Beyer is a graduate assistant athletic trainer in her first year as a Winthrop Eagle. Prior to working at Winthrop, Beyer got her undergraduate degree at Capital University in athletic training with a minor in coaching sports and fitness administration. Beyer was born and raised in Rushville, Ohio, and so far is enjoying living in Rock Hill.
“I chose Winthrop because of the small town feel with the convenience of Charlotte being so close,” she said.
Beyer has been assigned to the women’s volleyball team and men’s tennis team. As a graduate assistant trainer, she spends the majority of her time with the team that is in season. When asked what she took away from assisting with the volleyball team in the fall, Beyer said she learned how to overcome adversity. Being that it was her first season as an athletic trainer, Beyer had to learn to overcome some new struggles.
Looking forward to the spring season ahead, Beyer is extremely excited to work with the men’s tennis team.
“I am looking forward to working with such a diverse team and learning about their cultures” Beyer said. The men’s tennis team has only one American on the squad so she will certainly have the opportunity to learn a lot from such an eclectic group of men.
The hardest part about athletic training for Beyer is having to hold athletes from activity because of injury. Beyer has faced this issue with both the volleyball team and now the men’s tennis team. Recently, junior men’s tennis player Ruy Teixeira is facing a potential season-ending injury. When asked about Beyer as a trainer he said, “Jamie is really professional and I am confident that she knows what she is doing. She is always focused on us as both athletes and people and I really respect and appreciate her.”
Outside of athletic training, Beyer is an avid video gamer and was recently engaged. Her boyfriend of four years proposed to her in December while on a hike in Kentucky. They plan to get married after her graduation in May 2019.
