Electrical fire in DiGiorgio Campus Center
A call was made concerning the smell of burning wires in the DiGiorgio Campus Center early on October 5. The complainant stated that she noticed the scent after turning the lights on, so an officer decided to inspect the electrical box, where they found that the wires inside were on fire. The fire soon died out, and it was seen to be the result of multiple breakers being tripped. The power was turned off to the building following the incident.
Underage alcohol possession in Cherry Road parking lot
An officer decided to inspect a vehicle improperly parked in the rear of the Cherry Road parking lot on October 5. He contacted two construction workers, presumably for the Wofford and Richardson site across the lot, inside the vehicle. They could not speak English and had an alcoholic beverage in the center console, which the officer then confiscated. The drinker of the beverage did not have a driver’s license and received a state citation for underage drinking while the other subject, who was a licensed driver, took control of the vehicle.
Two bikes stolen in one day
WUPD addressed two separate cases of bicycle theft on October 5. The first took place at a Courtyard bike rack, where the victim had locked her bike after riding it on Sept. 30. The second theft took place at the Walk2Campus apartments, where the victim had not locked her bike and it was subsequently stolen. There was no evidence to prove whether the larceny was instigated by the same individual, and the cases have since been closed by the administration.
Aggressive driver at disc golf competition
An officer met with a complainant who claimed that a disc golf player had threatened and attempted to strike her with her vehicle on the golf course on October 7. No reference was made to whether this vehicle was a golf cart or car. The disc golf supervisor soon spoke with the subject and ensured WUPD that they would escort the player if she had any more outbursts.
