Fall into Fun in Rock Hill

Now that it has begun to cool down, there are countless exciting things to do in Rock Hill to celebrate fall.

Rock Hill is home to festivals, tastings, and beautiful fall foliage perfect to celebrate the remainder of the season. These events are perfect for those who wish to explore the town while taking in the scenery that this time of year has to offer. Many of these activities are appropriate for all ages, but parents of young children should research the events beforehand to determine whether they are appropriate for their family.

For those who love to get to know their community, there are multiple opportunities to learn about the area. Exploring Old Town and Riverwalk gives residents the opportunity to admire the changing leaves while meeting local vendors. Old Town’s Freedom Walkway allows visitors to bask in the pleasant weather while learning about the Civil Rights Movement and how it impacted Rock Hill. The Anne Close Greenway in Fort Mill features outdoor activities, as well as historic buildings from York County. Ebenezer Park and Glencairn Gardens also promise to provide residents with a beautiful backdrop for their autumnal activities.

For the fans of traditional fall festivals, local farmers are pleased to host visitors. Cherry Place Farm and Black’s Peaches are holding fall festivals every weekend until the season ends. Cherry Place Farm and Black’s Peaches are home to corn mazes, hayrides, and pumpkin patches, as well as refreshments — perfect for impromptu photoshoots and spending time with loved ones! Carowinds is hosting their Pumpkin Festival at the end of the month to celebrate a successful fall season. Local businesses such as the Mercantile and neighborhood churches are also hosting festivals the week before Halloween, featuring food trucks, face painting, and costume contests.

If the cooling temperatures prove to be too abrasive, indoor activities are happening all around the county as well. York County Libraries hosts daily activities for all ages, many of which are seasonally thematic. The Settlemyre Planetarium is also an indoor pastime for the quickly darkening nights, as constellations such as Ursa Major become visible. The Comporium Telephone Museum is also a great way to beat the seasonal chill, as it is a completely indoors museum that is free to all patrons; Comporium Museum explains how telephone systems have evolved over the decades.

As Halloween approaches, there are multiple ways to get in the spooky mood. Haunted houses are open the week leading up to Halloween in various locations around the York County area. For more authentic scares, walking ghost tours of the city and Winthrop’s campus are available after sunset — more are available in the Charlotte metropolitan area for added thrills and chills. One could also visit Laurelwood Cemetery and other historical landmarks in order to hunt for ghosts on their own.

Regardless of the activity, Rock Hill is home to multiple ways to celebrate the quickly cooling days. The week before Halloween promises thrilling events, while the remainder of the season is bound to provide residents with entertaining activities.
