On Feb. 7, a sergeant with the Winthrop University Police Department was securing buildings around campus when he “observed Suspicious Activity at Johnson Hall in the stairwell between Roddey Apartments and Johnson Hall” according to the report. The sergeant had an officer dispatched to the scene who located four non-Winthrop affiliated suspects in the stairwell at Johnson Hall. The report states that “upon speaking with the Suspects, it was acknowledged that they had been smoking Marijuana in the stairwell, and there wasn’t any left on them.” Furthermore, it was acknowledged that suspects are members of “local travel basketball program at Believe Academy Prep.” The coach for the basketball team was contacted by the officer and he arrived at the scene “to retrieve the Suspects after being advised of the incident.”
On Feb. 12, a Winthrop student entered the Good Building to report harassment. Prior to talking with the victim, the WUPD reporting officer had received an email from another member of the WUPD “in reference to ongoing harassment between the Victim and the Suspect.” The email — which according to the report was written by the victim — referenced a message that the suspect had sent to the victim. The victim has filed a restraining order against the suspect “advising that no contact is to be made by any means.” However the report states that, according to the victim, the restraining order has yet to be served to the suspect. The victim was “issued a Victim Notification Form for Harassment 2nd.”
