Final exam tips for freshman

  1. Don’t forget self-care! Finals can be overwhelming. Take one day during the weekend before finals to mentally prepare.
  2. Don’t cram! You aren’t as likely to remember things if you’ve only been studying it for a night.
  3. Study in increments.  Study a subject for 30 minutes, take a 10 minute break and repeat.
  4. Use the Academic Success Center.  A lot of gen ed courses will have study sessions in Dinkins. Pop in to get some last-minute questions answered by your peer tutors!
  5. Take advantage of the study session benefits.  You can find all kinds of perks around campus to help students stay motivated while studying. DiGs sometimes has donuts on study day! Thomson has previously had a pancake night after their regular hours on study day!
  6. Don’t forget your blue books!  Some courses require you to purchase blue books from the bookstore for the final exam. You should purchase them as soon as they’re available.
  7. Set your alarm!  You’re only allowed a certain amount of time for each exam. Make sure you’re there on time!
  8. Get your rest!  Make sure you’re getting at least 7-8 hours of sleep.
  9. Organize a group study session!  You can learn a lot from your classmates and they can learn a lot from you. It’s a win-win!
  10. Eat a healthy meal.   Don’t forget to eat when you’re studyingyour brain can’t work if it’s not well fed!
