This coming May, I will be graduating and passing on my position as Editor-in-Chief.
Leaving the paper is bittersweet for me, as I am excited for what lies ahead, but sad to leave a family of people without whom this paper- nor this school year- would have been as great as it has been.
Téa Franco, our current News Editor, has been elected as the new Editor-in-Chief for The Johnsonian’s 2018-2019 publication year. I asked her a few questions about her new position.
What are you most excited about?
I’m excited about working with a great staff to improve an already-great newspaper.
Do you feel as if your work at the paper has taught you a lot about your chosen career field in journalism?
It’s given me the opportunity to practice my writing a lot, and improve it, and learning the ways of the business: meeting deadlines, writing in AP Style, being subjective. I’ve also met a lot of people within this career field and already begun creating a network for myself.
Why do you think people should get involved with the paper?
For Mass Communication majors specifically, it’s a good way to get hands-on experience in the field. For other majors, it helps with your writing skills, which every job hiring looks for, and you get to meet a lot of people and get to know your campus more.
