Fitness and health tips from WU Athletes and experts
It’s almost spring break and you know what that means. Everyone going on a exotic vacation to the Bahamas or at least to the nearest beach. This is the weather that everyone wants to show their amazing bodies off in. Aren’t ready yet? Here is some tips to stay healthy and keep your body physically fit.
According to Emily Kelly, a Winthrop women’s basketball player, “Doing lots of lunges is a pretty good way to stay fit along with a lot of lifting. Out of season sprinting and conditional type of workout is a really good way to stay/get in shape.” Lunges are an exercise when you step forward lowering your knees until both knees are bent at a 90 degree angle. Sprinting is running as fast as you can for about 100 meters.
Anika Riley, another women’s basketball player, said that, “During the season it’s easier to stay in shape, so I tend not to eat healthy during that time. But once the season is over I work hard to discipline myself to run miles, lift weights, and eat healthy because it’s harder to stay fit with no one pushing me like during the season.”
In the weight room, located in the West Center, Winthrop offers personal trainers for $10 a session, once you commit to four sessions. This bonus that Winthrop offers is great resource for anyone trying to acquire a summer body or just trying to stay fit.
Kyle Zunic, a men’s basketball player from Australia, said that to stay healthy and fit it’s a good idea to, “Make sure to eat vegetables and fruit everyday. And have a target of drinking 3 liters of water everyday.” We all have been told that if we eat our fruits and veggies that we’ll grow up big and strong. Though we may have chosen not to believe it, it’s actually quite true. And drinking water everyday is very good for your body to stay healthy and feel good.
If you haven’t been working on your “summer body” yet, it may not happen by spring break. But there is still hope. If you start now and keep at it, by May you should have a summer body worth bragging rights.
