Senior lacrosse player Laura Trilling hopes to finish her final season a conference champion
Laura Trilling is a senior Winthrop women’s lacrosse player. Trilling was born and raised in Westminster, Maryland, and decided to come down to South Carolina because of the opportunity to play lacrosse and its appealing climate.
Trilling is coming off an extremely successful season for the Lady Eagles. Playing defense, Trilling racked up 40 ground balls and 21 caused turnovers last season. She is hoping to continue to use that momentum moving into this season. The women’s lacrosse team has won two Big South Championships during Trilling’s time at Winthrop. Big South conference play is extremely competitive and the dynamic of the lady Eagles helps with Winthrop’s success.
“We have 11 seniors, so this team has a lot of experience. I think we have the ability to do great things and I am looking forward to it,” Trilling said.
The Eagles just came off their first set of matches, defeating East Carolina University 17-9 and falling 10-12 to the University of Cincinnati.
Since this is Trilling’s final season, she has mixed emotions about what comes next. She has been playing lacrosse since she was six years old, so it is bittersweet to see her time as an Eagle come to an end. On the other hand, she is excited to see what is next for her. Trilling is concentrating in healthcare management and her dream career would be to enter into the healthcare field, specifically working in a hospital setting.
Outside of lacrosse she loves visiting her family house by the beach. Trilling has grown up spending her summers in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware. Rehoboth is a quaint beach town and is where Trilling feels most at home; she hopes to continue this tradition as she gets older.
Please head out to support your Lady Eagle’s as Trilling and the rest of the girls fight to bring the Big South trophy back to Rock Hill! Their next home match is Thursday, March 8 at 3 p.m. on Eagle Field.
