Stout believes experience and diversity sets the men’s soccer team apart from the rest
This week’s Eagle of The Week is junior Men’s soccer player, Evan Stout. Evan is from Indianapolis, Indiana and is a Financial Planning major. He is in his third year with the team and is very excited about the possibility for success that this team has. Stout plays forward for the Eagles and he got his start at soccer playing for Indiana Fire. His strength includes his soccer IQ, ability to see passes and execute them, and score. When speaking about the team and this season, Stout said, “I feel like we have a chance to do something special this year. Last year was a rough year, but this year we are a lot more experienced so we know what it takes to get the results.” In terms of season goals, their goal is to win a Big South Championship and then advance past the first round of the NCAA tournament.
The team has a wide range of people from all different nationalities. Currently there are players representing nine different nations. Stout feels that this diversity really helps them to have an edge against their competition. A fun fact about Evan is that after every win, Stout and three other teammates go to Waffle House to celebrate.
Outside of soccer Stout enjoys playing FIFA and heading out to the disk golf course around the Winthrop Lake. He is also a part of SAAC, the Student Athlete Advisory Council at Winthrop, where he is active in helping to make the student athlete experience better for everyone. In the future, Evan hopes to obtain his degree in Financial Planning and move closer to the coast so that he can be near the water.
The men’s team is getting closer to opening conference play and can use all the support that you can give to them! Head out to Eagle Field to watch Evan score some goals! Go Eagles!
