Eagle of the Week: Sabrena Reid

Senior track and field athlete, Sabrena Reid, hopes to soar with the Eagles in her final season

Sabrena Reid is a senior Nutrition major from Long Island, New York.  She participates in the 200-meter dash, high jump and 4×100 meter relay.

Reid came to Winthrop to continue her track career and escape the cold New York winters while gaining a great education.  Since being at Winthrop, Reid feels like she has improved both on the track and in the classroom.  “I chose to pursue nutrition because I am interested in the medical field and love the idea of using food as a preventive measure to cure and treat disease,” Reid said.

She has taken her newly learned skills into the real world as she has interned in a senior living facility, where she got to engage with residents and prepare and plan nutritionally beneficial meals.  Upon graduation Reid plans to obtain her Masters degree in Nutrition and complete a dietetics internship.

Not only has she excelled outside of the classroom, Reid has proven to be a crucial part of the track and field team with personal records of 26.03 in the 200-meter dash and 1.53 meters in the high jump.  “Track has been a major part of my college experience. It has kept me motivated and I am very sad to have my track career coming to an end,” Reid said.

Track as impacted Reid as an athlete but also as a person. “Track has made me a more competitive person and provided me with some friends that I plan to keep for the rest of my life,” Reid said.  Reid plans to use the competitiveness and motivation that helped to make her successful in track in the working world.

Outside of school and track, Reid enjoys photography, traveling and exploring New York City.  Some of her favorite areas in the city include Soho and Manhattan.  Her favorite stores to visit are Brandy Melville and Zara.  When she takes the train into the city, Reid and her sister are sure to visit Sugarfina, a boutique candy shop with unique candies.

Come out to support Reid and the rest of the Winthrop Track and Field athletes at their first outdoor home meet on March 22-24th!
