American Sign Language comes to Winthrop 

Why is ASL Important?

American Sign Language, more commonly known as ASL, is useful to many Americans, some here at Winthrop, who may a variety of health complications which require them to use ASL to communicate with others. The most well know speakers of ASL are the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities, who use sign language to communicate because they are either completely or partially unable to hear. However, many other groups use non-verbal communication rather than verbal language to express themselves.
